my 2008 boston whaler dauntless 180 will not take gas, but tank guage showing empty. when i put gas into intake on side of boat it backs up and just drains into tank very slowly, as if vent is clogged. i can see that tank has at least some gas in it, maybe 1/8 tank. dont know how it could be or how to check and fix. also, gas not coming into water separator near engine. help plz

Sounds like possible blockage for either the vent or possibly the fill hose. Detach the hoses on the top of the tank and blow compressed air through them, away from the tank. You may want to tape the tank fill tubing to prevent debri getting in. Sender may be bad but I doubt it, no fuel getting to motor filter.

Examine the vent fitting closely. Mud dauber wasps love to build their mud huts there.

I had the same syndrome on my 16 Dauntless. I had the separate tank vent on the outside of the gunwale. Both the filler line, and the vent line were clear of any blockages. Turned out that the boat normally sits very low at the stern, and the tank is actually then tilted at a bow-to-stern angle. It took very little residual fuel inside the tank to block the vent, and the result was the blowback thru the filler, which prevented any efficient filling activity. I had to have a couple passengers sit in the bow to trim the boat enough to clear the fill vent opening in the tank. I finally resorted to filling the tank while the boat was still on the trailer.
