1979 Montauk 17 getting a full restoration - just got the original brass back from the plater...
Looks amazing. I was very hesitant when I saw the cost associated with re-plating these original fixtures, as opposed to purchasing new ones(made in china versions) through websites advertising original parts . Thought I'd share in case anyone is interested in doing the same.

New(including new paint and fiberglass work):

I can't tell you how informative this website has been in my resto process. Thank you to all for posting. Amazing how helpful it has been.
Unfortunately, I don't have a personal page or restoration page set up yet, since I am still in the process of updating this new addition to our family. More to come as the process unfolds.
Just re-painted it and will be getting full re-power with hydraulic steering. Teak getting re-sanded and replaced as needed. most of the console teak will be new. getting new anchor/rode, new wiring/electircal in the console for switches, etc.
cheers.

Looks great, how much did it cost to have the set re-finished?

Thanks all.
Whaler Bob: It was about $750 as I recall, which included the screws. They strip the metal and re-plate them and buff. pretty interesting process actually. Not sure what the price would be to replace all the fixtures and screws with replacement parts, as I didn't do the math, but have to think it would be at least $500.00 and the metal definitely wouldn't be the same quality.

correction on my original post - I think I referred to the re-plating of the chrome as Brass - I believe it is bronze, not brass which was re-chrome plated. could be wrong on this though. cheers....-delrayfly
