Do you need the H05090 spacer kit for this motor? I have looked through the instruction manual and it seems to skip this motor, we'll at least as far as I can tell. It looks like I do but just want to double check.

Any other tips on installing this on a 17 Montauk would be welcomed.

Thanks!

As you know I also have the F70 on a Montauk. I also have Bay Star steering that was setup with my old motor. It is the HC4645H cyclinder which worked without modification on my Merc.

The instruction are somewhat conflicting from Teleflex on the F70 so I made sure to get both the H05090 spacer kit and the HA4642 mounting plate, which converts the HC4645H to the HC4648H.

It is currently rigged with just the spacer kit and seems to work fine no interference or binding. However the shorter mounting plate on the HC4648H would probably allow not using the spacer kit making for a cleaner install with shorter bolt. My guess is the spacer kit is for the HC4645H while the HC4648H doesn't need it.

I may try the HA4642 at some point, but it requires taking the end off the cylinder which would lose some fluid and require some new fluid and bleeding.

Here are some close up pics of the steering and the HA4642 for comparison:

I would recommend getting a HC4648H if you haven't already purchased the cyclinder, if you haven't put it together yet get the HA4642 to convert it, but I would still get the spacer kit as backup.

Another note, the steering arm from Yamaha needed to be tapped for the Bay Star bolt as it was slightly too small.
