Anybody have any experience with a rub rail that provided a good cushion and also has a channel for running wiring to the bow light? I am dropping my 1963 Sakonnett off to have the motor mounted, rub rail installed, and wiring through it to the bow light. There are many different models and styles out there and can't decide on which rub rail to get...

Look at my personal page. I used the second generation 2 piece (it's really 3 piece) rubrail only I substituted the white insert. You cover more of the fiberglass rail, get better shock absorption and it looks factory, which it kind of is. Also you can hide wires in it. Works great.

I agree with Chris. Get the all-white version of the three piece Barbour rub rail, which was OE on Whaler from 1972 to the mid 1990s.

Call Sue Lodel at Twin Cities Marine (a site sponsor and Whaler master dealer). She can get you as good a deal on the whole rub rail kit as you can get anywhere

The Barbour rub rail can be had in white, black and Moonstone (a Whaler-like beige)

I dealt with Barbour Plastics directly and got wonderful service and information. I decided to go with "black on black" (Why do I always second guess color choices? I believe even red rubber was available). They cross referenced the style (2 piece with room for wire) and sent me the Whaler original style that was earmarked for a different manufacturer's boat. That way I got the lengths I needed (they only sell pre-cut) with 2 foot of spoils. That saved some money. I dealt with John whose direct line is (508) 897-8339. Make sure of the measurements before you order. Also, their web site needs updating so do not pay attention to "availability", call direct. Ironically, I could have gone to any style rub rail because I am running electrical to my anchor locker (anchor winch, lights) through the cuddy in a 1979 22ft Revenge, and am bypassing the navigation light's wire in the original rub rail. Would have gone Whaler anyway.

Look at specialtymarine.com, I just purchased a new rub rail for 1966 17' Nauset that I am repowering. They are out of California. They carry 3 different color combos. hope this helps.

So I called Barbour Plastics and just to correct the contact there it's Mark who deals with the rub rails not John, he wanted me to clear that up on WC haha. What he didn't know was whether this rail would fit on a Sakonnet as it has a 1/2" over hang on top. Apparently Barbour has been making the rub rails for BW since the late 70s so he wasn't sure about the models in the 60s. Has anyone mounted this rail on a Sakonnet? I have attached the link below.
