I recently did a spiral wrap on my steering wheel so the question, what is a good protectant to coat it with?
So you old salty dogs please speak up with those home remedies!
The wheel covering can be seen on my personal page.

I have always used Varathane on my wraps with great success. Originally I used Flecto Varathane but I haven't been able to find it lately. I used Varathane premium spar urethane the last time and it seemed to be just like the Flecto. Thin the first coat or two with mineral spirits so that it penetrates the cording down to the wheel. Then apply multiple coats until you are satisfied with the look and feel. I usually do 8-10 coats on a mason cord wrap. I have surf rods that I built in the 70's that were done in mason cord wrap and Varathane. They have seen heavy use in a salt environment for many years and still look good as new.

Thanks for the input, I'll give it a shot.
I was talking with my dad asking had he ever heard of Varathane and of course in ever helpful way said, " you know I had several gallons of the stuff a couple years back and not knowing what it was good for, disposed of it". Thanks dad and now you know.
