Can anyone recommend what size and type of anchor I should use?
I need something as compact as possible as the storage area is small.
I seem to recall someone saying that some anchors require an additional line to release a certain type of anchor?
Any advice is much appreciated.

10 pound Mushroom anchor or a 2.2kg Bruce with 10 feet of chain should do it. Easy to stow, no sharp edges. The Bruce is what we use for setting in rocks and thick sand. Danforths set very well in sand but are hard to stow on small boats with the sharp edges. 13 foot boat does not need much anchor.

I use one of these on my 13 Sport. http://www.suncorstainless.com/cast-iron-grapnel-folding-anchor. I use this design because it folds up and stores very compactly. I don't use chain with it because I am never out in my 13 in less than ideal conditions. I anchor in sand, mud and oyster shells.

I will be using a small mushroom anchor for my 13 dauntless this year to free up room in locker. My larger anchor has beat up the storage area pretty bad. I will be in a small lake/river area and I think it will be ok. I will let you know this season.
