Hello, I am new to the forum so take it easy. I have a 1987 15' sport that has been in the family since 1987. My grandparents had a house around the St Michaels MD area and due to a bad health they have had to sell the house. The boat was given to my mom about 4 years ago and just sat in the driveway in PA. I tried to get the boat but having two siblings I could tell she didn't want to deal with the bickering from the others, but also felt I deserved it more. I was the only grandchild that was required to take the coast guard auxiliary course when I was 12 in order to drive it, I am also the oldest out of 28 grandchdren so being the first I understand why they required this. I was living in Nashville at the time so didn't push it much, but we moved back to Charleston SC so I started to ask more. In the end I gave my mom 3000$ and told her if she felt the need give them 1000$ each to not complain about it.

So the boat is here in SC and it is about time to start thinking about redoing some of the boat to make it last another 30 years. I know that modifications decrease the value but I do not plan on ever selling it and would prefer to make it more comfortable and convenient. My ideas are starting with a cooler seat, the style that has the back rest that swings back, then a center console with another cooler seat in front of that. I would prefer to do most of this wood to still maintain the old whaler look.

Has anyone seen a seat like what I am thinking about. We have a 17' key west with the rail style cooler bench and it does not look like it would be hard to build at all. It looks like it would just be the base to hold the cooler in place and then the arms to swing the back and the back rest. Closest I can find similar is the RPS but that does not provide any storage.

Also I am looking for some center console ideas. Most of the wood center consoles I see do not look like they have the whaler look. Would it just be best to use a fiberglass console.

Any advice would be great.

Is your 15 foot Whaler set up for a center console? Does it have a tunnel under the deck to run the steering and control cables etc.?

I know it can be confusing for some but easy for others but a picture would help tremendously. Oh, an welcome to Charleston.

I have seen the genuine Boston Whaler Center Console come up for sale on eBay and other classified sites before.

Otherwise, take a look at all the members here with "Custom" 15' models in the personal page section.
Scroll down to the 15' models and then "Custom".

This is the style cooler I am referring to. Just getting some ideas together. I was thinking about a fiberglass console with a bench seat. Since I will have all the original teak from helm and benches I was thinking of using this to make a frame and swing arm for back rest out of this.
