Hi, new whaler owner here, picking up a new to me 1998 13 ft Sport. this weekend to dock next to my 30 footer. I want to purchase a good cover since its going to be stored outside during the winter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dave, the cover question is one of infinite answers.
Try search on a couple of sites.

Custom covers last longer and cost a lot.
Off shelf covers do not last as long, but you can buy 3 for what a custom cover costs.

Set it it up so that it does not hold water, or leaves.

Advice from local canvas shop. Buy off shelf and if necessary have it tweaked.
Personally, I prefer lighter than heavier weights for convenience, and I prefer attached motor covers. They shed more water and are one fewer thing to lose.
If the boat is in the water,you might think theough just how you will put it on.

My brother stores his 13' outside in NJ.

Build two wide A frames so the tip of the A is above the motor and add a center beam (two overlapping 2x4x8 on edge). Add 4 short board pieces from beam to gunnel (screw into beam and sit on gunnel). Cover with a 10x16 tarp.

A good tarp should last 3 yrs.

I don't live up north, but if you do not use it at all during the winter, why don't you have it shrink wrapped?

I plan on working on it during the winter months in the garage so I don't want to get it shrink rapped. I was gonna get a good cover and then tarp over that also. Thanks for the replies I appreciate it. I've always shrink wrapped my big boats so this is kinda new for now.

Good idea but do it out of PVC pipe. I buy a Carver cover sized for my model about every 3 or 4 years (250.00) for my Nantucket and made a PVC frame that supports the cover with threaded connections for disassembly. PVC won't stain your cover or gel coat.
