For those of you who have installed a bilge pump in the sump of the Montauk, do you keep the drain plug in the sump or easily accessable from the external side of the transom?

I keep mine installed from the inside.

I trailer my boat so I plug it in from the outside before I launch. I have it crimped to 300# mono so I don't lose it and throw it in the splash well when it's on the trailer.

I think you will find that 99% of Whaler owners all put the plugs in from inside.

There are many reasons for this.
I will let others elaborate more on this.

The major advantage of plugging from the inside I see is it easier to pull the plug to drain the boat while it's running if the pump fails. On my 13' I used to do it that way because I could reach it from the helm but in 16 years of owning my Montauk 17 I never had the need to pull the plug and I'm sure I could reach it over the transom if I really needed to.
