Anyone see one of these before?
http://www.whalercentral.com/userphot...oto_id=151
I know they advertised the China Ash Tray in the 1972 catalog but I have never seen the 30th Anniversary base on these.
I have owned this for over 13 years and have never seen another one.
I have heard that they were some sort of dealer promo but not positive.
Anyone own even the standard China Ash Tray without the base?

I can truly say that I have not seen this likeable little trophy before.
I am not a smoker but can still appreciate the uniqueness of this Whaler memorabilia.
Where and when will this unique item may be available to be possibly shared?

Joe - I have had one of these for 20 years, complete with base and special brass plaque. I have always considered it a trophy, never an ashtray (I have never been a smoker and that use for it never occured to me), since it was awarded to me by the Boston Whaler company directly.
I received mine as a participant in a factory organized and sponsored 9 day event in the Bahamas.
The brass plaque on mine says:
"BOSTON WHALER'S OWNERS' RENDEZVOUS & FISHING TOURNAMENT
Green Turtle Cay, Abaco Bahamas, May 1993
WHALER TRAVELED THE FARTHEST"
Six of us made the trip in my Outrage 25, 180 miles from Palm Beach FL across the Gulf Stream to Green Turtle. I won this particular category since I am from Chicago.
I remember that several other of these trophies were given out, (OLDEST WHALER, TOURNAMENT WINNER, Etc) so there must be some other ones out there. 25 boats made the crossing. I assumed that at that time Whaler was routinely giving these out as awards for various events. Maybe not, and I was just lucky to get mine?
Mine sits on a shelf in my den, and since it is a 13, has value to me. My first Whaler was a 1958 13' Sport, hull 11. (#110)
On the port side, the manufacturer put the Whaler logo on backward.

Larry,
Yes, I read your post on Jim's site about 10 years ago.
We were all young and brave then. Me, not so much anymore.
The decals on this one are correct and it is also a 13' model.
Just wondering if anyone has seen, or owns, this 30th Anniversary addition.
You are the only other one I know of that has a similar version of this.
Pretty elite crowd then?
Yours is even better as you earned it.

Alright,
I think that we may have understood that the ashtray may be a neat item..
I personally like the little ceramic Whaler .

Got one on the shelf, and yes, the "leftovers" were given to dealers or lucky customers thru the years, I'm sure they're long gone like the 31's metal logo... And Finnegan, I remember you getting yours!

hey Draftsman, I have been diligently "hoardly collecting" the 31 Metal logos, and as of today I have three full pairs, (port and starboard) and one odd starboard. I have been lucky, at one point I did find the "guy with the box of them" but I could only talk him out of two sets, and it took me two years to do that!
Ill probably grab that china boat on ebay just to touch it...

Allright then,
Since nobody else will offer a starting bid for this rare Whaler ashtray
I will bid $50 if Joe will allow an auction to be waged.
An exciting way to spend time and get a chance to get a rare Whaler item.

There was one that just sold on eBay for $140 and I thought that was cheap.

If I were to sell it, I think it only fair to put it on eBay rather then here. Don't want to start any fights here.
