I have a 2004 270 Outrage and need to replace the 2 macerator pumps on the stern fish well boxes.
However, I've noticed that Whaler put this white sealant/putty substance around all the hose connections (along with hose clamps) and I'm having difficulty getting them disconnected to get the old pumps out. I can get the clamps lose but the hoses won't budge due to this sealant.
Does anyone know what this white substance is and how a best approach for getting the hoses off the pump?
Its only accessible through the small round stern hatches on the floor so there isn't a whole lot of room to work with it or maneuver.
Should I re-use whatever this sealant is when I do finally get the pump out and put in a new pump?
Thanks

How about using a heat gun and carefully applying a little heat to the hose. You could try a hair dryer first, but I don't think I would go with a torch on a boat.

Bill is right. A little heat and NO torch. The sealant is most likely one of the 3M marine sealants like 4200 or 5200. It's good stuff and doing its job that's why it is fighting you so much.
