hi .i just purchased a well used 1991 sport 13, which reguires some work to the keel and deck, so to make it easier to roll over i want to remove the seat and steering console, my problem is that its been sikaflexed in as well as screwed, is this standard from whaler or has one of the previous owners decided to do this for whatever reason. after spending half a day cutting, gouging, i still cant get it to budge. any ideas?

Silkaflex makes several types of sealant, the least tenacious being polyurethane. Being least tenacious, however, doesn't mean it's not a bear to remove. How do you know that's what it is? There is a product made which softens 5200 which I believe is a polysulfide. Ive heard of pulling a wire, like a cheese cutter, through polysulfide to break the bond. It may work for you. Find an old guitar string and put a couple of dowels on the ends as handles.

removed the sikaflex (didnt realise it was called something different there,thought the Australian brand name would be universal,)using a heated blade and a lot of slicing,gouging with a snap blade knife,the heat is what finally got in out,just made my hull repair longer,(didnt think of piano wire ,but lack of space and the fact that a thick bead of sikaflex was put on and then the console was placed on it made things difficult)i was a bit worried that the trolley jack i was using for leverage was going to go through the floor of the boat,adding to the repair,but it was good .The console seems to weigh a good 60 to 80 lbs,any ideas of the proper weight ? ,because i was thinking of cutting 1/2 the front seat out on the left side and also relocating the battery and fuel tank (presently under the steering wheel ,near the drivers feet to the left side to balance the boat .
