Yes, that was an optional seat.
There aren't too many of those around.
The cushion has been changed however.

OK. Thanks for the info. You say the seat was has been changed. In what way?

The cushion has been recovered and not original in color or piping color.

Ah! Would the original cover be a smooth vinyl? What color would it be. What would the piping color be? Sorry to ask so many questions. I need to recover them and would like for them to be as close to original as possible.

All that information can be found on the left sidebar under "OEM Part Photos and Info".

I had one of those seats on my 22 Outrage. It was meant to have an optional porta-potti under it.

Really! That's interesting. I'm think good space for a small cooler. Thanks

Does anyone know what the size of the forward seat is, and how it is attached? I have the frame with a homemade plywood thing on top that I would like to replace with a cushion.

I was thinking I had some plywood thing cobbed up by the last owner, but columbiawhaler, (Buz), sent me some pictures of his seat and my plywood thing looks to be the same base without the cushion.
It would be nice to sort out the "Whaler" details because I think this is a much nicer option than the cooler seat. Unlike the two boats above, mine also has cooler cleats, so the forward seat doesn't eliminate the cooler option.
Unfortuneately Buz sent his seat off to get recovered before I could ask him for measurements but his looks exactly like mine. My base measures 3 1/4" x 21" x 35 1/4", with the edges tapperig up to the back to about an inch or so, with no edge rail on the back of the platform. It attaches to the frame with a snap on each side, about a couple inches from the back, which allows for raising the front up to access a cooler.
Another thing that isn't clear is the seat frame rests on a ledge on the old winged console. I'm not sure when the consoles stopped having that ledge, or if it even matters.
Here are a couple pictures of mine >>>

All the consoles for the Classic Montauks have the ledge as far as I have seen.
1973 to 2002.
There are very few members that have that seat.
3 or 4 that I know of.
By far the most popular was the cooler seat and cushion.
Your seat was designed for an optional port-potti.
Thus the flip up seat so you could access the port-potti.

Ya, I went through all the member boat photos for all of the early boats and found none but the three people on this thread. I wouldn't have known about it at all if it just didn't happen to be on the boat I bought. Well read above, I didn't even know what I had until someone else asked about it.
I think it is a far superior option than the cooler cover deal. Think about it. It is much more solid and wider than a cooler cushion. That is the go to seat for anyone riding in the Montauk, except for me. It wins right there for rider comfort. The cooler color always clashed with the cushion color and the gelcoat. The cushion is snapped onto the cooler and the cooler is bungied to the deck. The cooler/cushion total price to do right is pretty high, just to look bad, and function poorly.
I'll have a proper forward seat from now on, if I have to take this one with me and patch the holes.
I don't know if it was designed for a porta potti or not, but my boat has cooler cleats so the forward seat has at least 2 additional features.

Take a look in the 1984 Boston Whaler Options Catalog, page 15.
You will see the Forward Seat with the Port Potti below it.
No mention of a cooler below it however.
NOTE: Snap-on cushion is removed when using Porta Potti

I've not been able to get a loved one to buy me the BW CD, so I'll take your word for it.
It would never occur to me to fit a Montauk with a portta Potti but what a selling point. The ultimate is a nice solid forward seat with a potti/cooler fitment .One option at a time, of course.

Hi I was looking at the seat and noticed the bow lite, is this the original on 1973, I have a 1974 and it is just a little round light?
(again, I changed the abbreviated years to the full 4 digit year of 1973 and 1974)
Please read the bold text on the front page about using the full 4 digit year.
