Thinking of a scotty electric 24 or 30 inch boom. Want to mount it on the rail at tee. This will be on a 190 Montauk 2008. Do you think the 30inch will be okay for stress on rail? Whats needed to mount to rail and be able to swivel it? The 2ft would be okay but would like to be able to swivel it. Any suggestions or tips before purchase will be appreciated.

I have some experience with the Scotty electric downriggers and found them to work great on my 18. I mount them directly to the gunwale. Ours are the longer, adjustable boom, 60" max, and we use the swivel base with them. For saltwater fishing, I think wider the better, to lessen the chances of tangles.

I'm pretty sure Scotty make a rail mount, but I don't know anyone who has used that mount. It's all good until the weight hangs up on bottom...that's when you'll discover the weakest part of the mount!

I have the Scotty rail/swivel mount for my 60" adjustable booms. They are mounted on added hand grab rails in the gunwales aft of mid-ship. The rail mounts recommend that you install a piece of seaboard or something that extends down to the closet surface on the outboard edge. They have pockets in the mount for this. That transfers the leverage to the boat away from the rail.

Thanks guys, will be purchasing them in the next couple weeks. Tried fishing last week,and it was choppy,had a hard time getting any lures dowh to fish on sonar,80 to 100 ft. Realized I need to get some downriggers.
