I need to replace the forward seat in my 1989 13' Super Sport. Towards the end of the boating season last summer I had the misfortune of hiitng some fairly rough waves with a somewhat larger individual riding in the middle of the seat!I think everyone will figure out what happened next!
I want to keep the wood as close to original as I can. Should I order a new one from Specialty Marine or would i be better served to go to the lumber yard and purchase a piece of Mahogony. i need to match it with Pettit Z spar.

Your profile says you have a 1989 Super Sport 13'

Is this a different boat?

Go to your local speciality lumber shop. Take your old piece with you so you can see the differences. You want a piece about 12 inches wide and a full inch thick.

What is the thickness of the board you have now?
1 inch? less, more?

It is hard to buy a perfectly flat 12 inch wide board.
So, it might be better to purchase a 5/4 thick board and plane it down as little as possible to make it flat and so it just slides into the sideboards.
