Hello all-
I see bimini tops ,flying tops, etc available for Montauks..but don't see them for Outrage 18's. Is there a reason for this? I would like an original used frame/top that is made for the Outrage 18 ,something to keep the sun off my noggin.. I have the forward shelter/frame with original Mills canvas, which is in ex condition. I never use it, but am reluctant to sell if I ever decide to sell my boat (not in the near future).
Any suggestions?
I finally brought my 120 Johnson VRO to a marina last week ,for a proper inspection (remember the mid range issues?) I will keep you posted when I get the news.
Thanks in advance!

Mills sells everything.

Fly Top
Forward Shelter
Windshield
Or, Suntop

Lots of members here have the Outrage canvas by Mills.
Here is a 20' Outrage in the Photo Album section.

I bought a very nice used Mills suntop for my Outrage 18 last summer from a guy whose fishing poles got in the way. I never thought I would want a forward shelter until I froze my rear off last fall. I bought my boat with all the canvass missing and presumed sold off.

I have a Mills Bimini in great shape that we dont use much, and I really want a forward shelter. I think we should talk!

Marko,

Mills Sun Top or Fly Top?

Bimini is generic for just about any canvas that keeps the sun off.

Sorry Joe, Mills Sun top. It's much larger than a Flying Top.

Thanks Joe for the top clarification!
Mark-
Tempting offer but you're in Bc and I'm in NY..shipping would be a killer?

John, are you interested enough for me to get some pricing on shipping? I would take it across the line myself, to ship from 98844.

The shipping from California to Ohio for my suntop was $250 terminal to terminal.

John,

Here are some photos of my prior 1986 Outrage 18' which shows the Mills Sun Top in the folded down and stowed position.
Note the sliders on top of the gunwales so it will slide forward and out of the way when stowed.

Since a Mills Forward Shelter is already on the boat, an expensive item, I would recommend to John to simply order a Mills FLYING Top and windshield. This is shown in Joe's photos. It's great all weather option for the Outrage. The SUN Top is not compatible with the Forward Shelter.

Finnegan,

I realize the Sun Top won't connect to the Forward Shelter but they both can work individually together.

I have seen several members using that combination.
The larger Sun Top gives more sun protection for some people and along with the Forward Shelter, allows kids (or others) to get completely out of the sun and wind.

So, both can be mounted together and used without a windshield.

I think there is one member that has a personal page that shows the Sun Top and Forward Shelter mounted on his Outrage.
Not a bad setup if a windshield is not needed.

Ouch-
Shipping to NY would even be more..another glitch..when I had my custom Sunbrella cover made, the shelter was not on the boat, and I didn't have a top. Obviously, the cover will not fit with the shelter or top installed. I always cover the boat after each use, even daily, so any setup is now an issue. I paid 1200 dollars for the cover! Thanks anyway Mark for your offer, but there isn't any room in the cover . My boat is at a marina getting the engine fixed..I'll have another look when it returns.
Joe-
Does the top rest on the gunnel forward? maybe a close up pic ?
if so, I probably don't have the slack in the cover..maybe a new panel could be sewn in,
Thanks,
John

Thanks John. no problem.

If I choose to get a new Forward Shelter from Mills, I'll have to pay to ship it west anyways, so if you decide to part with the one you have, please let me know.

cheers

My 18 Outrage has the Flying top, and yes, it does rest across the bow gunwales somewhat. See photos in my personal website link, 18 Outrage album.

My Outrage 25 also has the Mills Flying Top, and a Mills mooring cover. The Mills cover is designed to accomodate the stowed Flying Top under the cover.

Marko, you are correct as the shipping would have been expensive from Mills to Ohio. The tops are not heavy but there is a formula on size that the trucking co. use and the frames can't be broken down resulting in crazy freight costs. The seller of the top that I bought came down in price in order to get the deal done. I used Freightbrokers.com to get pricing.

Will do..Thanks to all for their input..I should have allowed for the tops when I had the cover made. No news on my engine diagnostics yet..I'll let everyone know how it works out.

John,

You don't have to slide the top all the way forward if you are going to use your cover when not using the boat.
