I found a vendor that makes custom tackle centers including a locking hatch door, hinge, and plano boxes inside.
I plan to remove my fire extinguisher and insert the tackle box into the side of the center console, 1995 Montauk.

Im sure someone has done this before, if so do happen to have the dimensions for fabrication?

Thanks

Hello, I wanted to push this thread to the top again in hope of some insight.
The New England Saltwater fishing show is coming up and I plan on contracting someone to build a custom tackle center for the center console.
Has anyone done this? My biggest concern is the reducing the structural properties of the center console by removing section to introduce the tackle center.

I custom built a Plano tackle system in the cabin of my 22 ft Revenge. The Plano item is called "Stow Away Rack Organizer". A bright orange/red plastic tray system. There are two sizes. I installed the larger sized one because all the trays were interchangeable with my tackle box trays (also Plano). My trays measured 13" wide x 9" deep x 2" tall. The rack organizer is the 3700 and the item # from Plano is 974-001. You get 4 trays to each organizing rack. The Organizer measures 15 1/2" wide x 11.25" tall x 9.5"deep. They are made of plastic and are self contained. You need only do a minimum amount of reinforcement because they hold themselves internally. I only did some backing so the would not shift (leftover 3/4" marine mahogany plywood) and trimmed out the front with teak. My cabinet door was made of the the same marine plywood. I squeezed in seven trays in my area (port side console).

The smaller sized Stow Away Rack Organizer is the 3600 part # 964-007 and the plastic tray holder takes the smaller trays (I do not know the dimensions). I just referred to my old notes. I wanted to keep all my tackle with interchangeable use and carrying systems. That is why I accommodated the 3700 series.

These organizers were a breeze to work with and once in place, sturdy. You can stack them as well as cut around them for 1/2 rack. Since these racks are self contained and stack-able and if you have the bottom bearing, I do not think they would affect the structural of the Montauk's console.
