im going to install sea star hyhraulic steering system going on a 1981 moutauk 16 7 ft does any body know how long the hose are from the stock console to the motor a 2006 yamaha 90 horse 4 stroke i think guts has the same boat and year

I'm sorry I can't remember the length of my hoses but my application was a bit different because of the autopilot system. I would suggest using a piece of household copper wire (like a piece of 14/2) and put it where you want it to go and then straighten it out and measure it and see what measurement you get. As I recall that's what I did but that's been quite some time ago.

The length of hoses needed depends on how you plan to route them; there is no one single answer. One length may work well for one boat owner but another boat owner might need a different length. You have to decide for yourself.
It is easy enough to simply measure what you need. Teleflex offers instruction on their website of how to do this.

I recently re-rigged my similar vintage Montauk with Bay Star hydraulic, and I used 18' hoses which worked well. See personal website photos. Baystar, incidentally, comes with TERRIBLE plastic TUBING instead of HOSES. I did not use the tubing and bought a set of Teleflex 18' hoses instead.
The nice thing about hydraulic hoses are that if you end up with some extra length, it is easy to coil up any extra length in the console interior.

thanks everbody looks like 18ft , is the size i ran a romex wire thru the boat an came out 18ft thanks
