Hi, 1st post so be kind. I have a 1996, 13 Dauntless with a quicksilver control and a Mercury 50. The control handle has 2 switches built into the head of the handle. One switch raises the engine trim, the other one does nothing, so I assume it is for the engine trim down. The trim switch on the motor works fine, up and down, so again I assume I have a bad switch for the down trim in the handle control. There are 2 separe swiches mounted over/under.. and they both move forward and back.. and like I said, one switch push one way, raises the motro, pushed the other way, does nothing, the second switch does nothing, pushed either way.. all this to say, does anybody have a part number/source for the trim switch?? Assuming you have a control that looks like this standard Mercury/Quicksilver single engine control,

something is not original in your trim switch configuration in the handle. Although the handle is designed to accomodate 2 trim switches when used in a dual engine control function, for a single engine there should be only one switch, and it should be the bottom location. This single rocker switch handles both the trim up and trim down functions.

You may need a new switch. It has three wires that clip on the back of it, a red, green and blue. Carefully pry off the retaining cover, and see what you have. You may also have to loosen or remove the handle from the control spline to make the repair. Otherwise, take it to a Mercury shop for the repair.

It sounds to me like someone did some homemade substitution repair work on the control trim switch.
