I have a old monel 12 gal fuel tank that woud be great for my 13' ft whaler. The tank has not been used in about 20 years. It appears to be in good shape. Except the crude on the inside. How do I clean that out?

I'd give it a WD-40 rinse and let it drain/dry. Monel is a hell of an alloy and should last a very very long time.

1 gallon of gasoline. slosh around, let it soak/dislodge any contaminents, and the pour it off through a sreeened funnel. Repeat (using same fuel).
If you can aggitate any debris in the tank with a brush or similar, even better...

Gasoline is a good solvent. Sloshing some around may be a good start but once you've done that, drain it off and get in there with dish soap and water and scrub it out. We're talking about a small portable tank for pete's sake. No need to spend a bunch of dough on chemicals.

I've done this many, many times. I like Dawn Dish Detergent as it is a powerful degreaser. Once you're done scrubbing, rinse with water repeatedly and let dry.

I use paper towel on the end of a flexible grabber thingy to swap out the last little puddles into the tank and collect debris. The final air dry takes less than an hour if it is warm.

Especially if it has ethanol in it like E10, or better yet, E85, or just get some methanol. Ethanol and methanol are great solvents, because of this that is what causes a lot of the ethanol in gasoline problems. They will disolve varnish deposits from old gasoline.
