Folks
I have a 1979 13 foot Sport, and I am a bit of a Boat Novice
I know there is a bunch of comments and discussion about Cable / Pulley Steering systems, but I have not seen a Drawing, plan, good picture or Detail of the typical original setup at the dashboard console. I'd like to see / find a drawing or exploded detail that shows the typical system including a cross section thru steering wheel down to the steering drum. (with the typical parts labeled if possible) Any suggestions?

Or, you could simplify things and put in a Teleflex push/pull system.

my only comment is if you continue to use this system you should change from wire to spectra line of the same diameter. using the wire is a problem as the wire can rust inside the cover and you will not know it. Spectra is very strong with very little stretch and you can see if it starts to ware. Also make sure the blocks are well secured If not this is a dangerous system.

There is no need to purchase anything but standard coated wire. You can purchase it at your local home improvement store, your looking for wire rope, galvanized and vinyl coated. The key safety feature of the system is it's simplicity and the ability to quickly review all the connections. Every steering system should be checked each and every time you take the boat out or any of them can become dangerous and refuse to operate at the worst time.
