Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Alternative to lip-liner on RPS rod holder (Montauk 17)

I recently bought a 1991 Montauk 17. I have learned a great deal from reading discussions on whaler central and am anxious to make it look even better. It's generally in good shape but lacks a number of parts. One of them is the 'lip-liners' on the rod holders integrated in the RPS. I understand (from another discussion) these are no longer available. Would anybody have some for sale, or suggestions for an alternative solution?

Thanks in advance,

I personally see no use for them. I took mine off and polished the stainless underneath.

Hi Douwe,
I refinished mine with a product called Plasti Dip. It's the stuff that people dip tool handles in. I did mine in black but it is available in white and other colors. You will just have to pour it into a larger can to accommodate the size of the rod holder. It's nice to have the rubber on there as the bare metal tends to chip up the paint on fishing reels of short butted rods.

I recall Joe Kriz replacing his with Lee's flush mount rod holders. If you use the search feature, you can read and see them.

Thank you for your suggestions. I decided to the 'easy way' and polished them until I could use them as a mirror.
