Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: fuel tank cap for tempo remote 12 gal. tank

After recently swamping the Montauk the threaded hand screw vent on an empty tank was broken off creating an opening in the cap which will now create a fuel leak from the opening where the scew once was. With no luck from the local Whaler dealer, West Marine, Cabellas, or any local boating shops in locating replacements- (they were corroding & needed replaced anyway), I now turn to you guru's out there in locating them. I know some good advice might be to be to toss the Tempos & go with a mounted Moeller 24 gal. but I live in the sticks therefore I like the remotes because I can remove them the to fuel individually without hauling the whole boat with me. I also know Joe will have the right thread to leave me feeling entirely incompetent in my computer skills for not being able to find it so perhaps a request to be directed in that direction as well as how to download pictures to the site would be of assistance since every time I try to enter a picture to share it comes back to me saying file too big to send. Thanks, Darren

Here's a thread you might find helpful concerning part availability (or lack thereof):

Sorry, once again I stand ill-mannered & un-informed. After stumbling through the site I think they may be the Mirax tanks. They are to my best knowledge the originals off of my 1988 montauk, nicely welded & all aluminum. Too nice to replace rather then restore I say! My biggest hope is that my wife & kids might say that about me one day! Thanks, Darren

Is this the cap you need?

I found them locally a couple years ago and they fit my Mirax and Tempo metal 12 gallon tanks. I can stop in and see if they still have them available.

Darren -

If the tank is a Mirax, contact them directly.

Thanks for the response Gary, that is Identical to the cap I need to replace other than the original is either stainless or plated. At this point I won't be meticulate, I just want to get back on the water safely. Any info on the manufacturer, part #'s, ect. would be helpfull in my search. Thanks again! Darren

Thanks Phil, I think you nailed it down for me on the manufacturer, unless perhaps the Tempo is identical in appearance which I haven't determined yet. but the link you sent me is for sure my tank & gauge however my tank doesn't have a vent on it as the one shown. After going to their parts section I see they offer two different caps. The one displayed is not vented but I will contact them tomorrow to see. Fortunately with Gary's help I now have a plan "B" to go with! Thank you all for excellent help & making me a proud member to this site. Darren

I bought them off Amazon.com and the seller happened to live in the same town as me. I contacted him and he is looking but does not think he has any more. They are Tempo part # 040070 or 119 BFC for TPC-6 tanks. It appears these are very difficult to find. I have 2 metal 12 gallon tanks and bought 2 new caps for them 2 years ago. I will look around in my piles of parts to see if I kept either of the original caps. If I can locate one you will be welcome to it but I don't think I did keep them when the new ones arrived.

Here is a photo of the carded cap you are searching for. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v722/Gamalot/Boat/41dxIuQICYL_SS500_.jpg

Good luck and I will respond here if I locate a good used one.
