I have a 1988 17' Montauk. Will a Bimini top frow the new model 170 work for width and height? I like the taco ball and socket much better, which I have on my 2008 150 Montauk.

Doesn't look like anyone has tried this before...

The Montauk 17' has a beam of 6' 2"
The Montauk 170 has a beam of 6' 10"
That obviously is a difference of 8 inches...
It might be too wide for the Montauk 17'....

And then you have to consider where it will mount on the Montauk 17'.
The Montauk 17' slider is mounted on the outside of the railing.
The Montauk 170 slider is mounted on the inside of the railing.

I don't think the height would be that much different but don't know for sure.

It would be hard to beat the Mills Canvas setup for the later Montauk 17' which when the top is down, it live outside of and in front of the bow rail.
Something like this:

It is completely out of the way and on the outside of the boat until you need it.

I believe this setup states it is for 1998 to 2002 and is "Sun Top w/boot Gunwale Mount SS Frame" but can be used with earlier Montauk 17 with the smirked hull from 1976 and forward.
See this .pdf for installation instructions.
