Last time we weren't able to make the turn with the steering cable from the side console channel (the area in between the hull and the mahogany side boards)to under the console. I don't remember if the cable just wasn't flexible enough or what, but we ended up just running it under the seat to the console. Fast forward a few years and the steering is shot so its time to replace it with a new cable. If possible I would like to run it in that channel this time, how were you able to do it?

Use a standoff bracket for the cable.

Many people think the standoff bracket is ugly plus you have to drill holes in the transom.
Another thought would be to try and buy a second tilt tube for twin cable steering that mounts on the motor. Then of course you wouldn't use the main tilt tube.
