We had a very rainy week here, VERY heavy downpours, micro bursts, wind, 4" of rain in 1 day, etc. I had not been down to check the boat, so I went down to the dock yesterday. What a mess, I saw my Whaler standing there almost alone, and bone dry. Lot's of other craft did not fair so well. I ran the engine and took her for a blast to re-charge/top off the battery, when I got back and tied up I went to leave, I felt a tad "Guilty" leaving, as almost everyone was swamped from the storm where I dock. I picked up a 5 gallon bucket and started to help others bail and get pumps running again. I kept my mouth shut but, I could feel what others were thinking "I Shoulda bought a Whaler" !

Years ago, I had the same type of experience when a huricane went through Maine. My Montauk had no trouble riding out high winds, lots of rain, etc. In the course of the storm, my 300 lb boat mooring was moved about 25 feet. Many other boats on the lake were swamped,,, the Whaler rode high all through the storm. Self-bailing... yup, that's what it means.
