Beautiful 1980 22' Outrage with Yamaha 4 stroke 200 for sale in Wakefield, RI. Boat is at Silver Spring Marina 401-783-0783. I do not own and have no financial interest in this boat. I just hate to see it sitting there.

It sure looks nice. Its a V-22 with the super console. Price is kind of steep, but it looks like its been really well taken care of.

Nice looking boat. Maybe some one has some info on the Yamaha 200hp motor. I recall something in that era about some of the Yammi's having issues with the exhaust blowing out a portion of the block. Yamaha fought tooth and nail denying any responsibility (they were responsible). A lot of folks took a serious hit with that issue.

That is not a four stroke - its a 2 stroke HPDI. (High pressure direct injection)

sraab928- you are correct. It is an HPDI motor. Sorry for the error.

It's too bad it has value destroying bottom paint. Otherwise it looks like a beautiful condition boat for a reasonable price.

In that case, I take back what I said above. In my opinion, topside paint is another destroyer of classic Whaler value. A good all original Whaler, with good gelcoat, will not need to be painted. So by definition, this boat was in tough shape before it was painted. Is that what a person wants?

You can hardly re power a hull for $23,000.00. That makes it pretty hard to say $23,000.00 is too much. Look what new boats cost....Can't get much of anything for 23K. Especially if it is new and says Whaler on the side!

Check the transom and deck for soft spots, drain tubes and pressure test the fuel tank...If it is all good... Run it!

Apparently somebody wanted it -- it's listed as sold.

A 37-year old boat with a 13-year old engine. Not exactly a recent repower. But then, I'm running a 26- year old engine.

I really like those Outrage 22s. This model seems to offer a lot of capability while still being reasonably-sized for trailering.

I'm running a 2000 Yamaha 200 HP HPDI on my 1980 22' Outrage. I love the motor. She is still going strong. Give it clean gas and she should run for a long time. The 225 HP, 250 HP, and 300 HP HPDI's did not have as good of a reputation as the 150 HP and 200 HP HPDI's. And I believe all HPDI's did not have the corrosion issues of the Yamaha four strokes from about 2004 to 2008. -Matt

I did have problems with the fuel filter in the HPDI VST tank fouling. And the high pressure canister filter above the VST tank clogged once. I had to change the fuel tank due to ethanol causing the filters to foul after about 10 hours of running. It's a long story. As part of my regular maintenance routine I change the VST filter every year and the high pressure canister filter every other year.

Yes, for sure, a good professional paint job destroys the value of a 37 year old repowered Classic Boston Whaler Outrage. Do you think that owner recovered his original purchase price with that sale?
