130 Sport listing to Starboard Side

Member Posts: 5 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/17/17	Need some help in determining what could be wrong with the boat. I bought a 2006 with a 40 HP Merc 4 stroke EFI. Unfortunatly i didnt do a sea trial just started motor and checked everything out on the boat. I launched it a week later to bring to my house and noticed right after launching that it lists to the right. We me in driving it list even more obviously. The battery is on the right and gas tank on left so everything is pretty even. If i go completely to the port aide it pretty much evens out. I weigh about 190. When the boat is at rest i would say its listing a ouple inches. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks (corrected model name for poster) Edited by Joe Kriz on 07/17/17 - 4:03 PM

You know what your gas and battery would weigh and weight the trailer separate and you'll have a boat weight which should be within a couple of percent of listed weight. I asked him about it one day - It's a weight distribution issue with the battery and fuel tank... Notice that the deck drain is on the starboard side by your feet at the helm. There is nothing wrong with the boat.

Like i said before ...i have to stand on the extreme port side almost on the gunnel for the boat to be level . Thats almost 200 lbs out of level. Doesnt seem right. Idk

Member Posts: 8 Comments: 0 Joined: 09/13/15	I know what you are saying and I think there is some science behind that which I'm not qualified to explain. Maybe a naval architect can chime in? I just know that a battery may weight 60-65 lbs depending on group size and gasoline weighs approximately 6 lbs a gallon. In a small boat, that can make a difference how she sits. Play around with it. Try filling up a 5 gallon bucket or two with water on the port side and see what happens. Water is about 8 lbs per gallon.

Randy is right that the gas tank does not weigh as much as the battery so the differential weight from the battery plus the console/steering/control box make it list. I moved my battery to the port side and it helped a lot.
