Hi All. I just purchased a 1996 Dauntless 17' DC as a first boat. I am out of my mind excited. It's in great shape except it needs a new tilt/trim unit which it will be getting next week. Been lurking on this sight and appreciate all the info that is available. I'm sure you will be hearing more from me. thx!

Hey CapeCod,

I hope you are as happy with your boat as we are with ours. We purchased our Dauntless 17 (Dual Console) about 2 weeks ago, and much like you, we got a boat that is in great condition. The major repair, if you want to call it that, is finding the right sized seat cushions. Everything else seems to be in working order (including the electronics!).

To be honest, I am getting very frustrated. I replaced the tilt/trim motor---I knew I had to when I bought the boat. Not cheap. Now there are a bunch of little niggly items with the motor. I have not had it on the water yet. It looks like another week or two. I have my fingers crossed and wallet open :)

CapeCod: I fretted over whether to buy a used or new boat and the motor is the thing that scared me toward a new boat. Having had it just now into my second season, I'm working on it all the time ... adding a fuse panel, mounting a fire extinguisher, putting in a GPS speedometer, etc. I actually enjoy working on the thing as well as using it ... so maybe I made a mistake buying new.

Don't give up, you've got a beauty of a boat, and putting time and money into these Whalers is worth it. No other boat will last so long ... (except for my friends who have wooden Lymans here on Lake Erie ... they're every bit as passionate (and crazy) as we are).

Thanks for the encouragement Bill. I'm sure it will be great fun once it's ready to go
