Gentlemen,

I have a 2009 BW 305 Conquest. My question regards the PEX water system installed. I recently developed a leak in the hot water tank, I decided to simply install a shut off valve on the PEX tubing feeding the tank so I could leave the water system charged while using the boat. But the 1/2" PEX parts I purchased were too large. Does anyone know what size PEX BW used? Is it metric (12mm), its larger than 3/8, Does PEX come in thin or thick wall? My first time ever working with PEX. I have not found anyone selling metric size.
Thanks,

Phil T

I would email/phone Boston Whaler Customer Service. They are very helpful with technical questions.

Call - 877-294-5645

or send them a very detailed email using their form.

tdwhitehorn,
The plumbing pipe and fixtures used on your whaler are probably not compatible with PEX fittings you can but at the local hardware store. That is because of the additional stress and pressure put on marine plumbing systems. There are a few different manufacturers of this type of marine / rv plastic plumbing and I do not know what brand your is, but like Phil said, you can contact Whaler directly for that info. You will also not be able to shut off just one line to the hot water tank as there is a inbound and outbound water line to the tank and from my experience just shutting one line off will not allow your presurized system to work independently of the hot water tank. However, you should be able go to West Marine or online and purchase a Camco hot water tank winterization and bypass kit. They cost around $25 bucks or so and has all the hardware and fittings needed including a valve that will bypass the tank and allow your water system to operate independently of the hot water tank. It is also a great tool to use to winterize your hot water system without pumping an additional 5-10 gallons of antifreeze into your system to fill the hot water tank so the antifreeze will properly be distributed thru the hot water plumbing of your boat.

Thanks for the reply's,
I will try to make contact with BW. The water system plumbing is definitely a PEX quick connect system of some type. It has the shark teeth " snap-in" plastic connectors (not brass). I am aware that Shark Tooth is a brand and I do NOT know what brand is installed. I also was able to simply disconnect the cold water line
entering the water heater and plug it, allowing me to use the rest of the water system for the next 48 hours with out any problems.
I trust BW can get me on track.

Tom
