Johnson oil drip

Member Posts: 35 Comments: 0 Joined: 01/12/15	After every use when I put my 15' whaler up, oil leaks (several ounces) from the exhaust for several days. It is a 2000 Johnson 50. I know it's not gear oil. I don't premix my fuel & oil, I have a separate oil tank. Any ideas?

Member Posts: 35 Comments: 0 Joined: 01/12/15	I wonder about the VRO pump as well. The bulb on the line is always very tight, I don't know how to test the VRO pump. The engine runs well, the carbs were just rebuilt and the compression is excellent, I just get this puddle of oil and that can't be right, I don't think. There are a lot of forums with this discussion going on but no real mention about the VRO pump itself. Thanks

Member Posts: 35 Comments: 0 Joined: 01/12/15	I just realized that if I always left the engine tilted up when it is out of the water, that oil would collect in the lower exhaust area and not drip on the floor. The bad news about that is that when I launch and lower the engine that oil will end up in the Bay. Maybe this is the way all 2 strokes behave and that is why they are phasing them out?

For earlier models that ran much more oil in the mix this was normal (the drip pans under my old outboards are testament. The VRO systems were supposed to make this better. If you aren't doing a lot of trolling or doing a long troll back to the ramp, I'd suspect that your pump might be pushing too much oil.
