I am interested in buying either a 210 Dauntless or 210 Montauk and am looking for opinions, pros and cons of each. I will primarily be fishing in the larger lakes of NH.

Do you want to be beat to death by chop (Montauk) or not (Dauntless). This is coming from a Montauk (17') and Dauntless (18') owner.

Corrected model names so we all don't confuse the newer models with the older models.

It appears winlessinnh is considering the newer 210 models.

The 210 Montauk hull design is quite different than the old 17' Montauks. The 210 Montauk is more of modified V hull. Resembles more of an Outrage than older Montauk 17

I like your Dauntless trailer. What kind is it?

Isn't the Montauk quit a bit cheaper? I have a 15' Dauntless now and really like it but it's too small as the family grows but the 210 Dauntless is pretty pricy and I wonder if it's worth it.

The Dauntless line is marketed as a family boat, with more seating and comfort. They tend to be heavier then the Montauk design. The hull design is more a near shore versus the offshore design of the Outrage line.

What are looking to do, cruise, fish, with family or buddies? Need to pull tubes or skiers?

If buying new, the Dauntless is a bit more expensive.

Winlessinh,

Good question.

Just thought I would weigh with my 2 cents here. I agonized over exactly this question for some time back when we moved up to a 190 Montauk. We had owned a 17 foot 1991 Outrage and was moving up and was considering Montauk vs Outrage vs Dauntless. We read the countless posting on this site and others related to this heavily debated topic. This is what I can write....without getting too deep into the details of each boat. Our 190 has handled just about everything thrown at it in terms of ride. Yes....we do pick our days and we also have occasionally been beat up, but have still put on about 100 hours the past few summers....most under a comfortable ride. This boat (and I am sure the 210 Montauk) would handle most conditions thrown at it.

Good luck.

AK

Thanks guys. It looks like if I want a family/fishing boat I should spend the extra and get the Dauntless. If I want a fishing boat for me and the guys, save the money and go with
Montauk.

I studied the specifications for the 210 Montauk and the 210 Dauntless. The 210 Montauk is longer. The beams are the same. The 210 Montauk has a 1.5 inch shallower draft. The 210 Montauk has a 100 lb lighter dry weight. The 210 Montauk has a 500 lb greater weight capacity. The 210 Montauk is rated for 9 passengers, the 210 Dauntless is rated for 8. The min/max. HP ratings are the same. Both hulls have the same deadrise. The 210 Montauk has a fuel capacity of 66.5 gals, compared to the Dauntless 75 gals. There is a difference in the tops offered as options. Otherwise, both boats are marketed as either fishing or family use. I would want to test ride each hull before deciding which one to buy.

Weatherly, thanks for putting in the effort. You're absolutely right, the only way to decide is to test drive.
