Removing stick-on Registration letters and numbers off gel-coat

Member Posts: 74 Comments: 0 Joined: 10/31/14	I recently bought a 2007 150 Sport and need to change the registration numbers and letters on the side of the boat. I don't want to damage the gel-coat. How can I take these older plastic letters and numbers off? Heat? Chemical solvent?

It is highly recommended you purchase a inexpensive plastic scraper. Don't use metal. It looks identical to a metal putty knife but made of plastic. This tool will not damage your gelcoat. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Economy-2-...038667-_-N A hairdryer on high works too without getting anything too hot. Work on one corner of a letter/number at a time and slowly work the scraper and heat. Once all the decals are off, use the Goo B Gone to remove the adhesive. Be warned there may be a slight color variation from the sun oxidation the hull. This can be reduced/eliminated by detailing the boat.
