Hi i'm new here and can see that you guys have a wealth of information on whalers! Im currently looking at a 1989 Whaler Outrage 18' with a Yamaha 150 4 stroke on it that has been slipped. Took the boat out for a sea trial and didn't anything but a nice ride but once I got the boat to plane i noticed a bunch of water filling up the stern of the boat and it had to be bilged out quickly as it was a good amount of water. When we carefully inspected the issue we noticed 4 screw holes that were never sealed and noticed that clear water was pumping from somewhere underneath the floor boards and it would only happen on plane. When we asked the seller, he said there were a couple of thru hulls that might be an issue but wanted to pick your guys' brain on what could be causing this problem and the thru hulls were stock on the 1989 18 outrage.

Thanks in advance and good to be on this site!

Not exactly sure where your describing the water coming from, but I may have an idea. The clamshell on the thru hull tube located in the bilge area in the back was crushed on my boat from being rotted and being on the trailer. If that clamshell is not in place and the plug is not in, you will get water coming in while underway. Just my 2c.

I wonder if it might be water in the fuel tank cavity. When you go on plane, the angle of the boat changes and some water might spill out into the sump. If there is enough, the sump would overflow if the plug was in and the pump was off.
